Our Story

Rolex Initiative is a female-led organization founded by Enid Mirembe a former Miss Tourism for Busoga region 2015/2016, like any other beauty pageant the Miss Tourism project, offers the girl child an opportunity to showcase their potential beyond beauty.

According to the founder Ms. Enid Mirembe, the majority of her female colleagues opted for charity and wildlife initiatives, however, she settled for Culinary Tourism because of the stereotype around Basoga, a famous tribe of Eastern Uganda known for making the best recipes of the street delicacy ‘’Rolex’’. It’s from this point that the popular signature Rolex Festival was birthed in 2016 and a maiden Culinary celebration was stagged at Uganda Museum on Sun 21st August.

Rolex Initiative Incorporated

Like the popular saying ‘’it only gets clearer as you start drawing’ we started an anonymous journey with a single stride. In 2017, we officially incorporated Rolex Initiative as a social-economic enterprise with registration number 80020000439735, Rolex Festival became the flagship service, which has since then grown into a National celebration with a reflection on the country’s tourism calendar.

Coming Home Rolex Festival

In 2019 the event extended her experience to Jinja City under the debuted ‘Coming Home Edition’ and when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in 2020, a virtual home edition was held in the month of August comprising of 8 episodes as local public figures showcased their skills in making a Rolex at the comfort of their homes competing against spouses and children.

Our Work With UNDP

With funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Rolex Initiative together with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities under the RolexPreneur program trained more than 500 fast food street vendors in the Rwenzori region,9 districts (Kabarole, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko, Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Bunyangabu, Kamwenge and Fort portal municipality). This aimed at building capacity to revive the livelihood of informal culinary artisans with the intention of building forward better and promote sustainable, inclusive culinary tourism development.

Mini Rolex Festival

In 2021, an invite-only mini Rolex Festival was held debuted ‘Rolex Feast’’ at Kampala’s premium Sheraton Garden Hotel to build confidence amongst the global travelers as the world bounced back better after the first wave of the pandemic. This product has attracted partners such as Coca-Cola for their global campaigns of meals go better with a Coke, Ministry of Tourism, Total, Kampala Capital City Authority, Africell Uganda, Galaxy FM among so many others.

Our Partnerships With KAMPALA CAPITAL CITY AUTHORITY(KCCA)

Rolex Preneur is a seasoned skills training program to equip informal gastronomy artisans with essential business skills and knowledge in Hygienic Meal Making, Greening businesses, Financial Inclusion, and Value-added food processing. Under this program we have collaborated with partners such as Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA) under their sanitation behavioral change campaign ‘Weyonje’to ensure communal and personal hygiene, we have linked the authority to fast food street vendors to ensure adherence to minimal hygienic meal making practices.

Rolex Initiative and KCCA have been to the following markets Wandegeya, Bunga, Kawempe, Kalerwe, Mulago, Nakawa, Mengo,Natete, Gaba among so many others.

Microfinance Support Centre (MSC)

We have worked with government agencies such as The Microfinance Support Centre to extend financial assistance towards the marginalized informal groups of fast food street vendors in the Country.
